Zagat: In the style of an exclusive Tokyo haunt, this Williamsburg izakaya maintains a rarefied air with a single orange light marking the door, a bamboo-adorned foyer guarded by a rope and a labyrinthine upstairs arrangement of secluded wooden booths; sophisticates indulge in sake and small Japanese plates. Daily Candy: In a city that loves the see-and-be-seen song, it?s a new tune when a restaurant hides its diners. But that?s how it works at Zenkichi. Wooden tables are enclosed in nooks around a bamboo garden; the wait staff flutters about and after you get your food, approaches only when you ring for them. Citysearch: The elegant, small Japanese plates are deadly serious--and seriously delicious. Creamy homemade tofu be speckled with edamame beans sets an appropriately dreamy tone, and firm Japanese eggplant share a broth bath with pillow-like rice noodles, ice-cold grapefruit gelee--super-tart and served in the citrus's scooped-out skin.
