No frills, straight-ahead delicious and fresh everything, from meatballs to a distinct sauce to French bread. They're made on the spot by Ab Kadir, a transplanted Libyan who has a flair for creating successful, small restaurants. His latest: the Pomodoro Pizza Cafe in Marin City's Gateway Shopping Center.

The restaurant opened last November, has four employees and is increasingly popular judging from the growing number of lunch patrons who have become regulars. Reasonable prices may explain part of it. It costs $6.75 for the meatball hero, for example, which gets you out of there with a fleeting fix for that nagging meatball monkey on your back.

Of course, there are other things on the menu. These include a variety of pizzas on dough baked in a brick oven, as well as a wide assortment of house-made pasta dishes and salads and sandwiches, as well as vegetarian offerings.
